The trek from Kafnu to Mulling—the first leg of the legendary Pin Bhaba Pass—is a masterclass in forest trekking.

The Trail Starting from the small hydroelectric village of Kafnu, the trail immediately plunges you into a dense, ancient forest of silver birch and towering pine trees. The canopy is often so thick that sunlight pierces through in dramatic, cinematic rays.

To your left, the Bhaba river roars, carving its way through the gorge. The air is thick with the scent of pine needles and damp earth.

Flora and Fauna This section of Kinnaur is incredibly biodiverse. Trekking through here, you will encounter vast arrays of Himalayan wildflowers, wild strawberries, and unique birdlife. If you are very quiet and very lucky, you might spot a Himalayan Brown Bear or a Blue Sheep high up on the ridges.

Emerging into Mulling After hours of navigating the dense forest, the trees suddenly break, and the landscape violently opens up into the sprawling, vibrant green meadows of Mulling. The contrast between the claustrophobic beauty of the forest and the expansive freedom of the meadow is a moment no trekker ever forgets.
